yellowed claws gently rubbed over his eyes, curled so the backs of his claws touched the sensitive flesh instead of the sharper tips. a soft groan hummed on his lips as he tried to get rid of the stinging feeling in his eyes. despite having them closed more than open. he wanted to go back to bed, but he always wanted to go back to bed. the town itself was exhausting, keeping him from being able to focus and causing him to use too much of his remaining energy just to block out the voices in his head from all the passing pokemon. he was not quite at the skill level required to easily control his powers, not even when it came to something so simple to his family, like telepathy. well, for him, it was more accidentally reading the minds of everyone he passed. he had yet to figure out how to actually send his voice into the mind of another pokemon.
the abra had disappeared to the outskirts of town, teleporting away from the comfort of his bed when the noise outside became too unbearable. he slowly toddled towards the edge of the river, plopping down with a muffled oompf. his claws reached back as he put his weight onto his hands, and he dipped the tips of his toes into the water. suppressing a shiver at the chill of the river water, the psychic type let out a hum. it was very quiet once he had moved farther out of the town. the only voices he could hear happened to be that of the wild fish Pokemon swimming by in the river on their way to the dungeon cave at the end of the river or the birds flying overhead. yet, those were scarce giving him some peace of mind until he heard the distinct inner monologue of a wild pokemon whose mind was hardwired for nothing more than survival.
"much better than the town square," the abra mumbled, leaning a little farther back onto his hands while his long tail curled around him. |

Exploring the dungeons together and bonding with each other was fine and dandy, but ever so often Van missed the days of solitude he had spent training. Sometimes, he just wanted his mind and its thought to drift away, freeing his spirit from any natural obligation, be it only for seconds. The river was usually a lonesome place, and nature remained the very same, calm and welcoming.
Another appeared, an Abra, to seach for the very same tranquility and serenity. Understandbly so. Not even with empty thoughts Van wished to bother the Abra's quest for quietetude; since he knew the very same desire and unfullfillment of it. Van just stood there at the shore, occassionally gazing at the Abra that was using the water to relax.
When Abra mumbled that it was much better than the city center, Van chuckled briefly and nodded. Yeah, it kinda was if one wished to be alone.

the thought of being alone was soon shattered as he heard a chuckle from not far off. his ears twitched at the sound, and he felt a soft hum of annoyance vibrate in his snout. having teleported in, he hadn't noticed the other soul by the outskirts riverside. perhaps he was still asleep. perhaps that was why he completely missed the extra presence. after all, when he was asleep, his mind mainly searched for hostility. if it wasn't present, then his mind would completely skip over it as if it never existed. he needed to work on that. he could not allow himself to underestimate those around him, especially if he wanted to attempt dungeons in the future. the distant future. tsk.
the abra twitched his ears again and flicked the tip of his tail while his head gave a slight tilt towards the unknown presence. well, known presence. male. sneasel. that's what his energy read like a book to the abra. he didn't even need to look with his eyes open to know, so he kept his eyes shut and squinted. no reason to have his sensitive eyes be assaulted by the sunlight without a good enough reason. yet, that was all he gave to the sneasel: a tilt of the head and a twitch of the ears. he remained quiet, figuring he had no reason to speak without being spoken to. besides, he was often scolded for doing that back home. if the stranger wanted to talk, he'd talk. if not, then he wouldn't bother him. otherwise, he might just fall back asleep right here despite the cold water on the tips of his toes. |

So silent, it appeared that the Abra did not even consider Van present at all, like it itself was drifting through the infinity that was the realm of thoughts. Such a wonderous place, beyond laws of reality and restrictions; both a void and everything in one, formed by your very will or lack their off.
Silence, and barely any movement. Yes, just like the sneasel himself. Both craved quitetude, and apparently, neither would break the other's and with that their own. No words had to fell, since both appeared to know exactly what the other craved. Something reminded him of that Abra, something about himself. It appeared that the Abra was himself, but without what made him pokemon; not even the windows to one's soul were open, like the Abra was blocking away any form of sense.

it was... kind of strange how the sneasel just sat there. sure, he was doing the same, but... oh, he shouldn't dwell on it for too long. anyone was allowed to sit beside a river, especially one that cut through the town, and, besides, he was the one who was, more or less, intruding. he was the one who teleported to a random location, only to end up beside the river near someone else. he should work on that... he should work on controlling his powers more, but it wasted so much energy just to keep himself from reading every single thought that crossed a nearby pokemon's mind. it was hard to just keep himself from reading the sneasel's. maybe he could... no, no. that would be very impolite, and it might just make this whole thing awkward. or, was it only awkward to him? maybe he should head back home and see if the noise from earlier was gone...
eh, later.
a yawn broke through his lips, and the abra had to quickly reach up to catch it. however, his movements were sluggish despite the desperate attempt at keeping his mouth from being exposed to the limited public, and his claws covered his mouth after the yawn was already finished. his head began tilting forwards and back straight a few times before he found his head slumping towards the armor plating on his chest with the jerking movement becoming fluid until his chin rested on his chest. asleep once more, lulled by the silence and the droning of his own thoughts. he could fall asleep in the worst possible places, with his feet in the water at that. magikarp nipped at his toes as they swam by, yet the abra found them to be little threat. |

A yawn of the Abra broke the tranquility, and due to hormones and social behaviour, Van's body forced him to yawn shortly after the Abra. A strange aspect of evolution. The Abra moved rather slow, while Van quickly caught his yawn. Huh, it appeared the Abra fell asleep. Good night then, boy. Heh, seeing the magicarps nomming the Abra's feet was actually quite cute.

okay... okay, no. no, he could no longer ignore the fish in the water. their desperate attempts at finding a horrible source of food and their scales brushing past his feet began to tickle. he only showed it through the twitching of his clawed toes in an attempt to scare off the nearby fish. it ended in failure, and one magikarp took it as a sign that, yes, his toes were food. the fish clamped down on one of his toes, dragging the sleeping abra forward and submerging him in the rushing water with a splash. there was a split second of fear that overcame the abra as he thrashed about in the water, kicking away the magikarp, only for his body to grow still.
another copy of the abra formed on the other side of the river, dripping with water as he fell to the ground, having teleported with inches between himself and the ground. the abra slowly pushed himself up with his hands, turning over so he could sit down. he shook his head and hands, shaking the water off. "how embarrassing," he huffed, twitching his ears awkwardly. the form left in the water quickly disappeared as it was carried away by the current. this is why he shouldn't go out in public. he did humiliating things in front of other pokemon because he ended up falling asleep. or because they told me to. he reached up, wiping away the water around his eyes.
"s-sorry you had to see that, sir." |

The magickarp dragged the poor Abra down the water, instantly waking it up. Now that was hilarious. But what he saw next was extremly bizarre; the Abra appeared at the chore, like it was teleporting, but not quite... it was weird; it felt like another person. But in any case, there was nothing to be ashamed of. Van just shook his head, not concerned about the Abra.
"No reason to apologize, sir." Van calmly responded.

"there's always a need to apologize." the words were out of his mouth without a moment of thought, escaping before he had a chance to stop himself. he clamped his mouth shut, falling silent as he bit down on his own tongue to keep himself from saying anything else. he was told not to apologize, so he should have left it at that. yet it was his own habit to apologize after every little thing, even if it had absolutely nothing to do with the other pokemon. bump into someone? apologize because you were the one at fault, even if you weren't. drop something? apologize because you might be blocking the way as you pick it up. it was just who he was, always apologizing in hopes that his slip ups were waved off.
the abra drew back his ears, pulling his legs inwards and crossing his ankles, clasping his hands over his ankles to keep his legs from sticking out. his tail idly flicked back and forth as he seemed to go back to staring at the moving water when he was actually trying not to overthink the situation he had caused while trying not to look too deep into the energy around him. it was a horrible flaw of his, and he should keep his mouth shut just in case. though, that was the first time i was called 'sir'. |

Always a need to apologize? What a cynic. But if he insisted; Van accepted his apology. Apparently, the Abra never intended to speak with Van, which bewildered the Sneasel slightly. "I don't think so, but if you insist I accept." Van stated, looking at Abra who once again began to daydream.

all his recent encounters seem to be rather awkward, but that might just be the abra making himself feel awkward. after all, he's the one who keeps nodding off, who keeps getting lost in his own thoughts, who disappears without a trace whenever the going gets tough... or when he doesn't know what to do in general. this time... no, this time he would just sit there... on the other side of the river. he wanted to go back over to the other side considering it was where he had originally been, but... but once more, that would be awkward for him. he had already spent enough of his energy escaping a magikarp, anyway, so he would have to wait a bit before he could teleport once more. and i don't want to swim. he gave a slight shiver at the mere thought of getting back in the chilly water.
he was curious about the sneasel, however. hadn't he seen him at the guild before? while it may be rare for him to leave his own room since he slept more than eighteen hours a day, he had seen this one... he could remember his energy. ah, the one with the riolu? team, maybe? he wanted to ask, but his own anxiety took hold, keeping his teeth firmly gripping onto his tongue. ow, ow, it was beginning to go numb. one of these days, he was going to end up bleeding because of it. the abra tilted his head to the side, keeping up the act of staring at nothing but water. |

Talking about guilt-trips, this guy made Van feel sorry about accepting his apology; like it was a way to affirm his super-defensive behaviour. Once again lost in his own thoughts, the Abra didn't insist on coming back to his original location. So be it, that is what choice is for. Was he really just starring at the water though? What a peculiar specimen.

now his tongue was really beginning to numb. his jaw grew slack, easing up on the abused flesh in his mouth. he was going to end up with a mangled tongue one of these days, and he would have to resort to actually working on his telepathy so he could communicate. hm, he could also write everything out, but... that was too much work as well. where would he get all the paper and ink? maybe he could befriend an inkay... that solved one problem, but then he would have to worry about the paper. oh, dear, he was getting sidetracked over meaningless topics.
the abra gulped, lightly drumming his claws on his ankles. this silence had gone on for long enough. while he was fine with a quiet day, it was awkward to be in the same area as another pokemon without even the slightest of idle conversation. an apology was not idle conversation. with a flick of the tail, his body stilled once more before his physical form teleported across the river, leaving behind the illusion of himself from where he had sat. this time, he managed to teleport himself on the ground, a little bit closer towards the sneasel, yet his body wobbled with fatigue until he tensed his muscles to still himself.
now he just needed to get over his anxiety. start a conversation on your own, replica. you can do this. "y-you're... You're the sneasel teamed with the riolu, right? part of the guild?" what a great conversation opener. he was the best at this. pah. "i, ah, remember your energy..." despite never having actually seeing him before. it was the feeling he got when he entered a room, sensing the energies of every pokemon that had been there. it was overbearing, and, yet, he somehow managed to remember every single energy and their emotions the time they had been there from heart. well, maybe talking about energy was not the best way to initiate conversation. it might weird some pokemon out. |

What was wrong with this Abra? It appeared to force itself to not speak. Did it have a phobia for conversation or what? This situation was really bizarre, not because they did not chat, but because it appeared they shoud but don't. Suddenly, the Abra vanished and returned closer to Van. Couldn't he use his feet or swim? Ah... whatever. The Abra shook, but forced itself to remain calm.
"Also a Electrike, though she is a bit less active then I and aforementioned Riolu. Team Aurora we are; yes, venturing for the guild we do. Remember my energy? Must be something like the aura-sense of the Riolu." Van responded calmly. Well, the silence broke rather easily, much to Van's delight.

electrike? his head tilted to the side while he kept his closed eyes focused on the river before them. hm, he did not remember an electrike's energy being with them... then again, he had been teleporting from the sleeping chambers to elsewhere lately. perhaps the electrike was a recent edition. "oh... the female by the statue?" he mumbled, twitching his triangular ears. it was possible, though she seemed like the type to be more active than the sneasel was letting on. she certainly seemed to have the energy for it, though perhaps they didn't take her out much due to her quick hostility. oh, wait, that might have just been towards him. hehe.
"team aurora," the abra echoed, continuing to twitch his ears. team aurora: a riolu, sneasel, and electrike. it was a bit of a strange combination, and the name confused him as well. "sounds like an ice type's team name." the abra referred to the move aurora beam and the northern lights up in the frigid areas. then again, a sneasel was part ice type. "are you the leader? it would make sense if that's the case." possibly not. the energies he had read always had the riolu taking lead and rushing off.
"it is... kind of similar." he tilted his head towards the stranger when the conversation switched to energy reading and auras. "both can change over time; however, an aura remains connected to its host, defining key traits based on color that can change over time. the energy left behind, however, always remains, like a hand print in cement, never changing, constantly replaying." he had more he could say on the topic, but he decided to trail off. he did not want to overload someone he just met with information. |
